You mean that it's not a scythe. Frankly, lad, you never sounded particularly excited to use one of those.
[He remembers that encounter in the store, many months ago, when Emizel seemed to ponder over an old scythe. And it's not really a jab, either. He's less interested in pushing Emizel in following blindly along the Reaper path... and more into convincing him to walk the one he likes.
Not that he means to stop him being a reaper if that's what he really wants to do, but... just that he can do his own thing.]
Besides, your command of the arcane arts seems to have grown steadily over the past few months. I figured you might find that useful in that pursuit.
Of course I want one! [The only reason why he didn't like that one was because it was too big. And worn out. And old... And it wasn't really that fancy either...]
[...And alright, maybe it was because he wasn't the best at it either.]
[But...]
...But I'm not allowed to keep one when I'm here.
[But Valvatorez probably already knew that. He figures that was another reason why he got him a staff instead. But he still had to be salty about it anyway.]
[However, if this was the best he was going to get.] It's not bad looking at least.
Unfortunately, I don't believe that's a rule they're willing to budge on.
[Not for lack of Valvatorez inquiring. It was part of the deal involving Death King Hugo; after all, a Reaper with a scythe was a truly dangerous thing. Even though Emizel was considerably less threatening than most Reapers at the moment, as he grew, that would doubtlessly change. Even removed from his bloodline, the potential in this young daemon was... substantial.]
I am glad to hear that. I considered its aesthetic carefully. While function matters more than form in the end, there is no reason why you cannot have both.
[No, there's no way anyone here were going to give him a scythe. Part of the rule.]
[But he does still remember checking some of them out awhile back in the academy's market. When Valvatorez said even a worn out weapon can still be pretty powerful. It did not feel that long ago.]

But I suppose that's not really answering your question, considering the holiday doesn't hold much to the likes of us. But that's the short of it.
Is it to your liking?

[He's a Reaper - not a Mage. He should be a monster class just like his dad, if you will.]

...Do you still use that sword?
[The one he had shown off.]
